Vegetarian & Jain food

Where vegetarians eat well in Singapore

Little India is a vegetarian paradise, and hawker centres everywhere have Indian vegetarian stalls. Several restaurants cook strict Jain food on request.

  • Syed Alwi Rd & Selegie Rd, Little India

    Ananda BhavanJain food

Singapore's oldest Indian vegetarian restaurant (since 1924), with a Jain menu at the Syed Alwi branch.

  • Serangoon Rd, Little India

    Govardhan ThalJain food

Unlimited Gujarati, Rajasthani and Kathiyawadi thali with no-onion, no-garlic options.

  • Syed Alwi Rd, near Mustafa Centre

    Shivam RestaurantJain food

Jain thalis, Mumbai chaat and Gujarati food prepared without onion and garlic.

  • Serangoon Rd, Little India

    Komala Vilas

Banana-leaf South Indian meals and dosas, serving vegetarians since 1947.

  • Serangoon Rd (next to Novotel)

    Annapoorna

Popular pure-veg South and North Indian food with long opening hours.

How to ask: Indian restaurants understand "Jain". At hawker centres ask for "no meat, no egg, no prawn paste" — many Chinese stalls also sell mock-meat vegetarian dishes.

Insider tips

Save money and skip the queues

  • Save money

Pay the MRT with your card

Tap your contactless Visa or Mastercard at MRT gates — fares are capped and you skip buying a tourist pass.

  • Save money

    Eat at hawker centres

A filling vegetarian meal at a hawker centre costs SGD 5–8, a fraction of restaurant prices, and Lau Pa Sat and Tekka Centre are excellent.

  • Save money

    Claim GST refunds with eTRS

Shops on the eTRS scheme link purchases to your card; validate at Changi's kiosks before departure to get the GST back.

  • Local secret

"Chope" a seat with a tissue

At hawker centres locals reserve tables by leaving a tissue packet on them — do not sit at a table with one.

  • Local secret

    Changi's Jewel before your flight

Arrive 3 hours early to see the Rain Vortex waterfall at Jewel, free and open to all, before checking in.

  • Best timing

    Supertree show from the ground

Arrive 15 minutes early for Garden Rhapsody (7:45 and 8:45 PM) and lie on the ground under the Supertrees for the best view.
